On Saturday, May 11, Sharifa Battashi delivered a presentation about the study at the ‘Learn and Chill’ event which was hosted by Terri-Louise Brown, the CEO of Talks with MS charity. ‘Learn and Chill’ is a research event where people with MS from the Black British community meet with researchers and learn about their research in an informal yet intellectually stimulating ways. Most importantly, this event provides these people who have been historically under-represented in research with many opportunities to take part in current studies
Sharifa provided an overview of the research study and shared some updates on its progress. She explained to them that the study is about engaging and tapping into the lived experiences of people with MS from South Asian and Black British ethnic backgrounds in the research process. The audience were excited to meet one of our peer researchers, Karen Chong, who also attended the event and talked about her experience as a peer researcher in our team.
We believe that peer research is a highly important aspect of our research as it will aid in providing deeply rich insights into the experiences of living with MS from the personal perspectives of people who come from ethnically minoritised backgrounds.
